GEMM project fosters the exchange of good practices in territorial governance among local authorities of the two shores of the Mediterranean sea. It officially started on the 15th of January 2007. The topics on which the project operates were selected at the intervention’s early stages, according to the indication of the co-leader cities. These topics are articulated into a transversal one, that is sustainable urban planning, and three specific vertical issues – improvement of labour market with a view to the integration of the disadvantaged groups of population, cultural heritage valorisation for the economic recovery and sustainable mobility and transport policies. The topics will be addressed for each of the three co-leader bodies of the southern shore and will generate an information flow between them and the Italian partners that should last after the project through the creation of a Mediterranean Network of Local Authorities. The first step of territorial analysis carried out in each of the co-leader cities will lead to a second stage during which the working methodologies of Italian local bodies, related to urban planning and the other topics at issue, will be transferred to the southern shore partners. A mutual exchange on territorial governance aiming at a better reciprocal knowledge and understanding among the partners is expected as one of the cross cutting main results.
