DESCRIPTIONThree fields of cooperation are planned:
a) Provide help in the definition, the promotion and the implementation of a long-lasting strategy of urban development. This would cover support for the diagnosis and the preparation of a process of integrated city planning.
b) Support for the implementation of specific urban policies, in particular for:
- economic development especially in view of the tourism potential and the heritage resources of cities;
- environmental protection and a better management of natural resources;
- conception and implementation of a transport / mobility policy;
- the protection and integration of the socially excluded.
c) Strengthening local governance, in particular:
- the implementation of an effective and modern institutional, legislative and local administrative framework;
- management and control of public finances;
- local authority staff training.
A call for proposals was launched in 2006, which lead to the selection of nine projects:

The management of these nine contracts will be devolved to the relevant EC Delegation in the beneficiary region within the first quarter of 2007 (the choice of the Delegation in charge depends on the projects' main activities repartition).
